I don’t even know where to begin with this one. So, I’ll go back to almost 2 years ago.
I was in an emotional rut over the death of my mother. I couldn’t write, sleep, drive…pretty much just stayed in bed all day. I knew at some point, I was going to have get back to some sort of schedule and start my life without my mother. Being a musician, a writer & co-writer for our two blogs, I was going to have to try & somehow get up. While my husband, daughter & doggie Lucki (she has since passed) kept me ever so present on this end, my sisters Jessica and Kim, helped me change up my space. This time around I wanted a theme: Pineapples. Pineapples mean “welcome.” It’s something that my mother used to reference all the time with people. Pineapples have had significant meaning in my life for the past four years, but will get into that a bit later in the year!
The space where you work is everything. And because I have multiple jobs where I work from home which require ideas, creativity & inspiration, changing my space was ultimately what I needed to do.
I’m a minimalist at best and I either do two things; stay minimal or go overboard. And with that extremity, Jessica highly suggested that I go with a white environment; especially the desk, walls, office decor and accessories. She said it would keep in the minimal vibe and keep me creative. I was totally against it. I told her everyone on Youtube, Instagram and Pinterest were doing the uninspired white space. But she said she was thinking of my emotional state and not about any social site. Kim suggested my space just be mine and bring all of my mother’s memory funeral belongings upstairs.
So having taken their advice, it took me 5 months to find a white desk that I liked and that was affordable. I decided on the See Jane Work Kate Writing Desk from Office Depot. (They sell it on Amazon too!) It’s basic white and I got it on sale!
So after almost 2 years, I got my space to a place that works for me and I also just got a new white chair two months ago. It’s been slowly coming along and instead of my desk being a “catch all” for mail & junk, I’m working from my desk, inspired, finished pre-production on my new album and have a ton of blog posts to share with all of you.
Couldn’t have done this without my girls, Jess & Kim and my husband & especially my daughter who is now with me on the Pineapple Train:)
If you want me to film this space, then please leave a comment below. I hope this helps anyone with grief, loss, being in a rut, or just wanting something new.
Happy Office Planning!
