What is it about skincare and what is it about serums?
I’ve always loved them, but was so confused as to where to begin, what to use, what would work…so I wanted to create this post to educate and inform all of you in our community as to what each does and why I love all of these, especially for summer.
1.) Trader Joe’s Argan Oil retails for $6.99. Argan oil made waves 4 years ago in the industry and it was all the rave due to it’s high Vitamin E, as this is considered “liquid gold.” According to Wikipedia, Argan plant oil is produced from the kernels of the argan tree (Argania spinosa L.) that is endemic to Morocco. I personally like this one better than all of the other, more expensive ones that I have tried. I use this on my hair only. I certainly could use this on my face, due to it’s lightweight formulation, but I have a face routine that has been consistent, so I use this on my hair on my once a week, on my deep treatment days. I use this on dirty hair and I take 6 drops of this oil, massage into my scalp & distribute the rest throughout my hair and leave on overnight. The next morning I rinse this oil out, wash & condition my hair and it feels as if you just left the hair salon. My hair is shiny, hydrated, protected and well nourished. I don’t mind having frizzy hair personally because that never bothered me growing me up, but this oil does keep the frizz at bay. At $6.99 a bottle for Organic Argan Oil, you simply can’t beat it & a little goes a long way.
(Trader Joes does not have a shopable site, so I linked what I could find. Go in store)
2.) Derma E/Sunkissalba Radiant Glow Oil is a MUST HAVE! I’m so proud that a Non-Toxic Beauty Influencer whom I can trust, Alba Ramos, aka. Sunkissalba, collaborated with a brand that I have been using for over 20 years, Derma E. This oil has been one of the most talked about products in the natural world for achieving that radiant glow in the past year. This oil is made with Jojoba, Argan and Seabuckthorn Oil with hints of Mica for that glowy shimmer. I personally love this over makeup when you’re just leaving the house for an extra highlight. I have used this for a personal milestone in my career; The Global Peace Song Awards to get ready for my day! This oil does not break me out. In fact it has helped with hyper-pigmentation and it just blends well with any makeup that I put on. I also use this to set my hair when do a slicked up bun. It adds and added shine and glow. Now wonder this is the most popular product for glow among my family & friends. I have gifted many family members with this oil and they are loving it. Congratulations Alba!
3.) LeMieux Cosmetics Vitamin C Serum is the most stable form of Vitamin C that I have ever tried. I started with their toner 7 years ago and have used their cleansers for years as well. So I wanted try one of the serums as so many people have raved about them.
LeMieux states: “This concentrated serum is enriched with 2 of the most stable forms of vitamin C (magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and aminopropyl ascorbyl phosphate), vitamin E (tocotrienol), and B vitamins (niacinamide and panthenol) to restore a healthy, youthful glow, balance uneven tone, and soften roughness. Features glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and 8 synergistic amino acids in a powerful complex that helps enhance collagen synthesis for brighter, firmer, more vibrant-looking skin.”
I use this at the top of cheekbones to keep this area at maximum hydration and for brightness on my highlight areas and I’ve seen such a difference in brightness in my texture. This serum retails for $65.
4.) Skincare by Jennifer Regenerating Carrot Oil
Skincare by Jennifer’s Regenerating Carrot Oil is “A light, quickly absorbing and soothing facial oil containing high levels of anti-oxidants, nutrients, vitamins and healing agents. High concentrations of Chamomile and Evening Primrose sooth and heal while the Rose Geranium and Lavender Essential Oils stimulate regeneration for mature/dry/sensitive/normal skin types.” Jen started me on this to hydrate my dry & eczema complexion to use at night, to come back to life as we were preparing for The Global Peace Song Awards in April. I’ve been using it ever since. I’ve tried 3 other carrot oils in my life and this is hands down, my favorite and go to. It’s lightweight for summer and it retails at $32.
5.) John Masters Organics Pomegranate Facial Nourishing Oil is a lightweight, non-greasy formula, that penetrates and sinks right into the skin & my driest spots. They sent this to me in PR & I tried it about two months ago. This is NOT an everyday serum for me, but I do use this at my at home, once a week pampering nights. I take the lightest drop and press it into my skin. Some reviews have said that this has caused breakouts, which I have yet to experience. This also smells like sage and eucalyptus, in which I dab a few drops of this on my pillow at night. Here is what John Masters Organics states about this oil:
“Antioxidants are known as an effective way to keep skin from showing signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots. Boost your complexion’s defenses against environmental pollutants and stressors with our USDA-certified organic face oil. An expert combination of antioxidant-rich pomegranate seed oil and evening primrose oil drench skin in nutrients that improve the appearance of elasticity, softness, and tone of skin. Sunflower and olive oils meld together to plump skin with essential fatty acids, vitamins and nutrients that can rehydrate even the driest complexions.”
6.) Guidance To Glow Copper Complex Peptide Serum is my HOLY GRAIL. Whether you have seen this serum popping up on your Instagram feed or have seen this featured on Harper’s Bizarre Youtube Channel, you will know that this serum is an absolute must for summer. If you are dry, flaky & dehydrated, your skin will show it. This Hylauronic Acid potent and powerful serum, will hydrate your skin, clear up any acne, dark spots, texture and hyper pigmentation. Basically, my miracle in a bottle. Created by Fenya Abramian, founder of Guidance to Glow, she wanted to create a formula that would allow everyone to use the right ingredients for their skin. She has told me that “the smallest ingredients can make the biggest difference in your skin.” I was on a waiting list to see Fenya, since 2017 (YES, she is in the highest demand!) which was a Mother’s Day gift from my family, and boy did I get an education about my skin. Due to bed rest with a medical injury, my skin was at it’s driest most dehydrated it has ever been. Fast forward to seeing Fenya, she created a personal skincare routine incorporating new products and allowing me to stick to my own. She customized what I needed. Fenya is a hyper-pigmentation specialist, who specializes in women of color’s skin. Needless to say, I am using this serum morning and night. This has changed my skin, given me clarity, is clearing up my eczema from underneath which is allowing my pigmentation to heal in a few key spots. This is what I call…my miracle in a bottle. Retailing for $74, you can order online, as she can ship any products to you.
I hope that this guide to summer serums for hair and skin help you. I have wanted to do this post for awhile, but I needed to try these products for at least a month before I could give my stamp of approval.
Please let me know in the comments, what you are using for the summer. We would love to hear about it!
Have a great day,
